Our Grooming Services
At Kailua Pets, every service is built around beautiful results, coat health, comfort, and trust.
Whether your dog needs a full groom, regular bath, deshedding, skin and coat care, or specialty trim, our goal is to help them look wonderful and feel comfortable throughout the process.
Regular grooming helps dogs become familiar with the salon, the team, and the routine. Over time, that familiarity can make grooming easier, calmer, and more enjoyable for everyone.
Beautiful grooms built on trust.

Haircuts, Hand Scissoring & Finish Grooming
Our full-service grooming appointments are designed for dogs who need complete coat care, styling, bathing, drying, nail care, and finishing.
We begin with a gentle skin and coat assessment so we can choose the right products, tools, and approach for your dog’s coat type, comfort level, and lifestyle.
This service is ideal for dogs who need regular maintenance, breed-style grooming, coat shaping, or a fresh, polished look while being cared for in a calm, low-stimulation environment.

Bathing & Deshedding
Regular bathing and deshedding help keep your dog cleaner, more comfortable, and easier to maintain between full grooming appointments.
This service is especially helpful for double-coated dogs, beach dogs, seasonal shedders, and dogs whose coats collect sand, salt, and debris.
We begin with a skin and coat check, then choose products and techniques that support coat health while removing loose undercoat as gently and thoroughly as possible.

Breed-Specific, Specialty & Show Coat Services
Some coats require more than a basic trim. They need an understanding of breed structure, coat texture, correct outline, maintenance timing, and the purpose behind the trim.
Donna has more than three decades of experience exhibiting dogs in conformation, including Standard Poodles, Miniature Schnauzers, Border Collies, and Japanese Chin, with additional hands-on experience assisting with Miniature and Toy Poodles and other breeds.
This background supports a more educated approach to breed-specific and specialty coat care, including hand stripping, show coat maintenance, correct outline trims, coat shaping, and customized grooming plans for dogs whose coats require more detailed maintenance.
These services may be a good fit for:
- show dogs needing coat maintenance between events
- puppies being introduced to show grooming
- terriers requiring hand stripping or coat texture management
- spaniels needing coat maintenance beyond a basic pet trim
- poodles and coated breeds requiring, grow out planning, regular shaping and structure work
- owners who want a trim that respects breed type while fitting the dog’s lifestyle
Specialty coat services are detail-focused and may require advance booking, a consultation, or a regular maintenance schedule to achieve the best results

New Client Experience
We are honored to welcome new dogs into the Kailua Pets family.
At your first visit, we take time to understand your dog as an individual, including their personality, grooming history, long-term care goals, lifestyle, and saltwater exposure.
For many dogs, the first visit begins the trust-building process. We introduce them thoughtfully, give them time to settle, and pay attention to how they respond to the space, the team, the grooming table, the bath, the dryer, and each step of the appointment.
This helps us make better decisions for your dog’s comfort and future care.
Some dogs settle in right away. Others need a slower introduction, shorter appointments, or a few visits to fully understand that Kailua Pets is a calm and safe place for them.
We also love helping dogs build positive associations here. For one sweet pup, her owner let her choose a toy on her second visit, and she was so proud. Moments like that matter because they help dogs connect grooming with trust, comfort, and even joy.
The first visit gives us valuable information about what your dog needs to feel successful. From there, we can recommend the best grooming rhythm, coat maintenance plan, and appointment structure moving forward.
This is especially important for owners who want their dog to become a regular client and enjoy a more comfortable, confident grooming experience over time.

Skin & Coat Care
Healthy skin and coat are the foundation of comfortable grooming.
As a Certified Canine Esthetician, Donna brings advanced training in skin and coat assessment, product selection, and coat care. We choose shampoos, conditioners, and treatments based on your dog’s coat type, skin comfort, lifestyle, and grooming needs.
When veterinary support is needed, we are happy to work alongside your veterinarian so grooming supports your dog’s overall care plan.

Nail Trims and Filing
Regular nail care supports your dog’s comfort, posture, and healthy movement.
Nails are trimmed and filed smooth to reduce sharp edges, and we check the paw pads for debris or concerns, especially for active dogs who enjoy the beach, trails, and outdoor time.
Nail care is included with full grooming services and also available as a stand-alone appointment.
Regular Care, Better Grooming Experiences
The best grooming experiences are built over time.
When dogs come in regularly, they become familiar with our space, our team, and the rhythm of grooming. That familiarity helps many dogs feel more relaxed, confident, and comfortable with each visit.
Regular grooming also helps prevent matting, supports skin and coat health, keeps nails and feet more comfortable, and makes each appointment easier and more predictable.
If you are looking for a long-term grooming relationship built on skill, trust, and thoughtful care, we would love to meet you and your dog.
